Foodies up North

Authentic Nasi kandar, there's so many places that u can venture in Penang as most of it are authentic (except those commercialised ones, eg Kayu, Pelita, etc)

1st day in Penang, we must go to Yasmeen Restaurant (just beside Line Clear). Tis time i only wanted to have fish roe and squid roe with ladies finger. I do not want to eat anyting else beside that. Its soooo good....

(Restaurant Yasmeen)

After lunch, walked to chowrastar-market area. Cari 'air-sarbat' and 'takua-rendang' and the alleys beside the market. For some who don't know 'air-sarbat' is a cooling drink made of syrup with isi-kelapa and biji selasih (like small tadpoles)...perhhh..memang best giler. Had takua rendang, the takua is so bloddy soft and the cucur is so cruncy in the outside and soft in the inside....but unfortunately the sauce is not to my liking.

(Sarbat)

(Takua Rendang)

At Chowrasta, its a must for both of us to buy the 'buah berangan' and its 'cendol'...best lagi!!

Dah kenyang, we went to Gurney Plaza. I sempat lagi singgah its food court and get my 'asam-laksa'.....nasib baik sedap..

For dinner, we just walked to Sup Hameed. Had mee goreng, mihun goreng, sup ayam and roti canai. The soup is still good as well as the roti-canai but unfortunately their mee goreng and mihun goreng tak berapa sedap.

-------------------------------------------------------------

2nd day in Penang for lunch we went to Deen Restaurant at Jelutong. Just our luck cos we went there early (i think before noon) and they still have fish and squid row (kalau datang lambat, cepat habis). Bee asked me whether i'm sure i wanna have them again, i said i have to have it again and again cos u can't get it in KL..hehehe.. Maybe because everyting is still fresh and newly cooked, the food is just so superb!!

(bee's fried chicken, squid roe and bendi)

(my fish n squid roe, takue and bendi)

(our plate together)

After lunch, went to Queensbay Mall; watched movie and lepak there till evening before we stop-over at Gurney road to have their famous mee goreng Edgecombe. Actually i pun tak tau. Bee said he read somewhere that they are famous for its mee goreng and pasembur. Memang tak menghampakan, its very very sedap.

Mee goreng Edgecombe

After that we went back to hotel and refresh ourselves. Around 9pm we left to Ferringhi Night Market. So nice to see lotsa people with lotsa new things to see at the pasar malam. After the jalan-jalan, we wanted to try this new place. We heard about this place but didn't get the chance to go but since (earlier) bee sudah scout and found the place, better go man!!

(the queue)
Its Nasi Kandar Liyakat (nasi beratur). Imagine at midnite pun there are so many people lining up to eat nasi kandar!! But it was worth the queue as the food is really-really authentic!! We agreed that its our number 1 in the list for now!! As usual, i took nothing else but fish n squid row. The gravy is just so tasty and the rice-texture is simply the best (u need to effortlessly chew to know that its the right type of rice). Reached our hotel nearly 1am.

The fried fish roe is so damn good, squid roe and bendi...the kuah campoq is sedap!!!

Bee said the curry chicken is so tender....i agreed!!

I'm happy....look at our plate...licin!!

--------------------------------------------------------------

3rd day after breakfast, bee sampat bring me to Jalan Kulit to have the famous popia. Later jalan-jalan at its pasar pagi before we went back to hotel to pack.

After checking out, we went to Prangin Mall. Entah macam-mana we let ourselves get a foot-massage. It is so bloody cheap, at RM20 for 30minutes. I took the 30 minutes massage while hubby got the 45minites at RM30 only. After the massage we decided not to have rice cos it will make ourselves sleepy. Instead we just had pizza at Pizza Hut. Left Penang around 5pm.

Something rare happened to us. Our friend 'S' went to Penang to have her 'teambuilding' workshop at Pulau Jerejak. She left Penang on the same day with coach with her other 39 colleagues. At one particular highway she said she saw me from her coach. (What are the chances of you seing a fren at a PLUS highway??).

She quickly called me and we chatted. Nak jadi cerita we met at the Tapah R&R. Gave her a lift and reached KL at close to 9pm. Had dinner at Nasi Lemak Cikgu Kelana Jaya with her hubby and depart.

What a day! What a gluttony weekend indeed!! My stomach so happy....hehehe...

Road Trip to Penang

Last friday, bee and i made a road trip to Penang. Wanted to have a break during the weekend. Actually the break is more about eating. We've been craving for authentic nasi kandar for some time oredi.

This time, everything has been arranged by my beloved other half. He arranged for accomodation, the trip and the food!! I think this is the most fullfilling trip to Penang ever!! We got to try different places and discover new eateries....syoknya!!

We left Shah Alam around 8:30am. I made us breakfast (sardine in olive-oil sandwiches) and 'ayam-salai' with coffee and we ate along the way while driving. We didn't wanna stop at any R&R and reached Butterworth around 12noon altho it was a leisure drive. Took the Ferry and get to park the car on the upper-deck of the ferry....nice view.

Tis time we stayed in Cititel. Reason being, its a walking distant to Chowrasta market. 2nd reason is its also walking distant to Sup Hameed. Since d petrol hike, bee planned that we do lots of walking instead of driving down to Chowrasta and don't waste unnecessary journey to find parking.

Oya, Cititel has upgraded its hotel. They've refurbished their rooms. This is how it looks like now and the view frm our room.

Karipaf

Actually there is nothing for me to blog. But i'm quite bored now and coincidently after lunch, a colleague bought for us karipaf. So i wanna share with you guys about karipaf.

There are so many types of karipaf nowadays (i'm referring to their fillings). They not only have the usual chicken curry with potatoes but they have sambal sardine, beef curry, coconut + udang kering and etc.
The karipaf that she bought for us is triple the size of the usual ones that you always buy. You can only get these XL karipaf in Dome or Secret Recipe or Ikea. This one is quite nice and it filled-up your stomach during your tea-time. Its curry chicken which is quite spicy and there is a quarter size of boiled egg inside, yummy.

I will be out of town this week so i won't be blogging for a few days. Have a great weekend.

When you look me in your eyes

Have you heard of The Jonas Brothers? Yep, me too. I was introduced by my niece who lives in Seremban. They're these young kids who have talents. I was mesmerised by this particular song. I don't think my era people would appreciate this song but i happened to like it. Its so nice to listen and the lyrics. I'm such a sentimental, so i wana dedicate this song to who else...bee...

When you look me in your eyes - Jonas Brothers

If the heart is always searching,
Can you ever find a home?
I've been looking for that someone,
I'll never make it on my own.
Dreams can't take the place of loving you,
There's gotta be a million reasons why it's true

When you look me in the eyes,
And tell me that you love me.
Everything's alright,
When you're right here by my side.
When you look me in the eyes,
I catch a glimpse of heaven.
I find my paradise,
When you look me in the eyes.

How long will I be waiting,
To be with you again
Gonna tell you that I love you,
In the best way that I can.
I can't take a day without you here,
You're the light that makes my darkness disappear.

When you look me in the eyes,
And tell me that you love me.
Everything's alright,
When you're right here by my side.
When you look me in the eyes,
I catch a glimpse of heaven.
I find my paradise,
When you look me in the eyes.

More and more, I start to realize,
I can reach my tomorrow,
I can hold my head high,
And it's all because you're by my side.

When you look me in the eyes,
And tell me that you love me.
Everything's alright,
When you're right here by my side.
When I hold you in my arms
I know that it's forever
I just gotta let you know
I never wanna let you go

Cause when you look me in the eyes.

And tell me that you love me.
Everything's alright,
When you're right here by my side.
When you look me in the eyes,
I catch a glimpse of heaven.
I find my paradise,
When you look me in the eyes. Oh

Centro Mall

Sunday, both of us thot why not make a trip to Centro Klang for lunch. Been wanting to go there for quite some time but haven't got the chance.

I donno whether it was me or the place but (no offense sweettooth), i don't like it!!....its practically dead to me if not for the Thai Fair. We were sort of totally lost!! Donno where and what to eat. Yes, there were few eatery places but we end up in Kenny Rogers...and the place is practically empty!!

(see bee's face, so muram and look at the background, nobody!! Just us and the waitresses. And this you're talking about sunday!!)

I'm sorry to the fans of Centro but i don't think i'll make a trip there again. Bee was so dissappointed, he said out of 10, he gave a one (1) only!!

Maria's Restaurant

I always looked forward (who doesn't?!!) for Saturdays and Sundays . If we don't have anyting to do during the weekend, i just loved spending time either go for movies or 'retail therapy' with bee or go grocerries shopping or etc. Sometimes we planned to go for makan at new places and sometimes we'll just go eat and ol'places.

Bee said he read in papers recently that Puan Seri Norashikin (wife of former speaker dewan rakyat Tan Sri Ramli Ngah Talib) officiated a new eatary place in Damansara Perdana. The name of the place is Maria's. Its located at the Citibank at the Metropolitan Square in bandar Damansara Perdana.

We reached Maria's for lunch time. Cozy and elegant ambiance. We were surprise to see that there were quite a number of people who comes in and dine there. We thot since the place is located on the 2nd floor, people might not wanna come but we're wrong.

Bee ordered Seafood Platter. He said the price is too expensive for a seafood platter that looked like this. Altho the taste is quite okey. He said the squid is quite soft and not too springy. Tho he wished they used sea-prawns instead of the rared one.

I ordered Hawaiian Chicken Chop. I like the chicken's batter, very crispy and the meat is tender. However, i don't fancy the gravy, i think it lacked of tomatoish taste. Plus point is their potato wedges are freshly fried.

We find the price of their main meals and fresh juices are reasonable.

After lunch, we both adjourned to One Utama. We had our desserts at The Waffle World. I just loved their banana caramel waffle with double scoop ice-cream, yummy!!

In the evening we took my parents to Uptown for dinner. Its been like 3-4 months since we last went. I so wanted to take pics of the food but we all were so hungry and i forgot all about it. Mama had mihun gorend with telor bungkus, Papa had mixed grill, Bee had nasi goreng and I had the famous Yong Tau Foo and Sotong Kangkung.

Later we drove my parent to Old Town White Coffee at Jaya One for their hot white coffee and ice-blended white coffee with roti bakar for supper, memang super!! Reached home nearly midnite!

Wanted (Movie)

Last friday bee asked me what i wanna do after work. Since my parents didn't call us for dinner, we have plenty of time in the evening but nothing to do. So i suggested if he's interested to go watch movie, friday nite mah! He agreed. And so we went to Sunway Pyramid and wat a luck we got tickets for the 7:40pm show.

Wanted is a movie starring Angelina Jolie, Morgan Freeman and John McAvoy. I just loved movies that shows tough women with guns and fight scenes...hehe...girl power!!

The plot (cut & paste) : 25-year-old Wes (James McAvoy) was the most disaffected, cube-dwelling drone the planet had ever known. His boss chewed him out hourly, his girlfriend ignored him routinely and his life plodded on interminably. Everyone was certain this disengaged slacker would amount to nothing. There was little else for Wes to do but wile away the days and die in his slow, clock-punching rut.

Until he met a woman named Fox (Angelina Jolie).

After his estranged father is murdered, the deadly sexy Fox recruits Wes into the Fraternity, a secret society that trains Wes to avenge his dad's death by unlocking his dormant powers. As she teaches him how to develop lightning-quick reflexes and phenomenal agility, Wes discovers this team lives by an ancient, unbreakable code: carry out the death orders given by fate itself.
With wickedly brilliant tutors—including the Fraternity's enigmatic leader, Sloan (Morgan Freeman)—Wes grows to enjoy all the strength he ever wanted. But, slowly, he begins to realize there is more to his dangerous associates than meets the eye. And as he wavers between newfound heroism and vengeance, Wes will come to learn what no one could ever teach him: he alone controls his destiny.
Our verdict : Best!! Go watch it. Its an action/fiction kinda movie but i just loved the twisted-plot at the end of the movie.

Get Smart

Went to see the 6:10pm show at One Utama. Movie title : Get Smart.

The plot : Maxwell Smart, an analyst employed by the spy agency CONTROL, has always hoped to be promoted to a be Field Operative, but despite his scoring extremely well on the Field Operative test, the Chief of CONTROL decides not to promote him because Max is more valuable in his current duties. After Agent 23 returns to CONTROL headquarters from a successful mission, Max steps out, disappointed, and accidentally bumps into a woman jogger. He returns to H.Q. to discover that enemy agents, sent by KAOS operative Siegfried, have penetrated CONTROL and have destroyed its interior. He finds the woman that he had bumped into is actually Agent 99; unfortunately, when Max and Agent 99 encounter apparent intruders in the wrecked base, Max fails to recognize them as fellow CONTROL agents and inadvertently attacks the Chief. Afterward, it is discovered that the perpetrators have stolen CONTROL's Agent files, thus exposing and assassinating many CONTROL agents around the world. (the rest of the plot...u guys go and see it for yourself)

Our verdict : Memang best!! Seronok, go and watch it!! Its a 'feel-good' movie. I liked it very much!!

Dinner at Cozy Corner, Jaya 33

Brought my parents to Cozy Corner for mama's belated birthday dinner and papa's father's day. Its my parents first time dining there but our upteenth time. We also invited bro n SIL since they also never been there before. Huby's treat and he's also the one who suggested the venue since my parents haven't been there before.

The parent

With my other half

The sihat couple!

Last nite we all made a trip there at 8pm. Hubby said everyone can order anyting they want.

Mama's Cozy Corner Chicken Chop

Papa's T-bone steak.

My mihun/mee soup....i missed Cable-Car Cafe's mihun soup, their's the best!

Bee's mihun hailam

Bro n SIL had 2 white rice each with kung-pau chicken and butter prawns.

Verdict, my parents liked the place and enjoyed the food. As usual our stomach has no rooms for dessert altho i tried to coax them into eating ice-cream but semuanya taknak...sigh.

Anyway, mama sempat lagi beli some buah-buahan just outside of the foyer, so we had strawberries, blueberries and papayas at home sweet home.
