Absolute Thai Cafe

Last sunday, my mother-inlaw came down to KL with one sis-inlaw. We met them at Ikea. Lunch is at Absolute Thai Noodle Cafe. FYI, its halal!

I've never been here before. First time. Their menu act as a table mat too. The price is a bit pricey but the food is good and the place is mostly full. Its a small cafe that can seat in about 25 pax inside and 15pax for their smoking section.

I had Thai Fried Mihun (RM13.50), look at its presentation, underneath the egg omlette - my meal is very nice, i especially loike its sambal belacan, MIL had Thai Flat Noodle Thai Style, Bee had Mihun Tomyam (RM15.50) - which he said nice and SIL had Pineapple Fried Rice (RM14.50), which is just so-so. We ordered Cendol and Waterchestnut (RM6.90 per bowl) for dessert. If you have HSBC or CIMB card, you can get 10% discount from the total bill.

Chocolate Mud Cake

Since we're having dinner at my parents house tonite, i thot of bringing something different. Wanna try my hands on making 'Chocolate Mud Cake'. The recipe is easy, its from one of the 'Australian Women's Weekly' - March 2002 edition.

Ingredient :-

250g butter, chopped
200g dark chocolate, chopped
2 cups (440g) caster sugar
1 1/3 cups (330ml) water
1 tablespoon dry instant coffee
3/4 cup (110g) plain flour
3/4 cup (110g) self-raising flour
1/4 cup (25g) cocoa powder
3 eggs, beaten lightly

Combine the butter, chocolate, sugar, water and coffee in a medium saucepan; stir over a low heat, without boiling, until the butter is just melted and the mixture is smooth. Transfer chocolate mixture to a large bowl, allow to cool for 10 minutes.

Preheat the oven. Whisk the combined sifted plain and self-raising flours and cocoa into the chocolate mixture in two batches, then whisk in the eggs. Pour mixture into the prepared pan.

Bake in a slow oven for about 1 3/4 hours. Cover the cake pan with foil; cool cake in pan. This is how it looked like after baking.

*Please note that i only use 1 cup of sugar (cut-down d sweetness)...so far, it taste okey.

After dinner, i cut-out the mud-cake in squares. For dessert, i scooped out a few scoops of vanilla ice-creams, topped it on top of the mud-cake....TADA!!! U can also add some chocolate toping....yum...yum...

My personal verdict. I don't tink i like mud cake cos i think its a bit solid.

Home-made Fish & Wedges for Lunch

Today is our santai day. Altho we had roti-canai for breakfast this morning but i decided that we eat some lite home-made food today. Fish & Chips but with potato wedges & salad.

Tis is an easy recipe, from the "Better Homes and Gardens - New Cook Book". All you need for your fish batter are :-

1 cup all-purpose flour
1/2 teaspoon baking powder
1/4 teaspoon salt
1 cup beer or milk (in tis case, surely lah i use milk)

Thaw fish, rinse and pat dry with paper towels. Cut fish into 2 or 3 serving-size pieces. In the recipe book didn't say this but i marinate the fish with salt and pepper before dipping the fish in the batter (you can do the same). For fish batter, combine flour, baking powder and salt. Add beer or milk, beat till smooth. Dip fish into batter. Fry fish in hot oil, one or two peices at a time, about 2 minutes on each side or till golden brown.

Before the frying d fish, i made my own salad. I chopped some tomatoes, big-onions, some almond slices which i saute (without oil) and some greens and in this case i use 'Romaine' salad (which i took out its core). Place all of it in a salad bowl and mix it together with mayonaise which i mix with a little bit of tomato-sauce. Toss lightly to mix and sprinkle the almond. Simple to make.

Afterwards, i made some potato wedges (please use imported one cos imported potatoes taste much better). I mix it with rice-flour, curry powder and salt. Mix together and fry. Topped it with mayo.....sedap...

This is our simple meal for lunch today. Alhamdulilah, bee said good (a few times)!! Bukan senang nak dapat 'compliments' from him especially about food....so i'm good today...heh...heh...heh...

Tonite i'm meeting my parents & bro/wife at KJ. Hmm...wonder wats...cookin?!!

Sushi Zanmai again

After office today, we wanted to go find some stuffs. I suggested bee whether he wants to try Sushi Zanmai....as usual he oblighed lah...hihihi.

We got a cubicle seat next to the sushi-belt.

We didn't order much, just some Chawanmushi, sashimi, fried tofu and the prawns with rice...which makes us both oredi fully.

Bee liked the place too and he acknowledged that the food is good too.

New Gadget

Wooohooo....yes.....i got myself a new gadget!! I'm soooo happeeee bee bought for me. They call it a Mini Digital Speaker....i don't even know this thing exist!!

We were in Sunway Pyramid yesterday after office. After dinner, we jalan-jalan. There is one shop which sells many interesting accessories, gadgets and t-shirts. If i'm not mistaken they have another branch in OU.

Came across this gadget. Its is a mini speaker for your MP3/MP4. I immediately wanted it!!! No second thots.....bee straight-away purchase it...hehehe...sambil tu sempat jugak dia 'geleng-geleng' kepala...hehehe...

Once i reached home, quickly I tried n tested it....and yes!!!It works and i lurve it!! Sometimes when i don't feel like using the headphones, i can always use the speaker for my own listening. Its not that loud but its juz nice for your travel, etc when you needed to listen to music.

The gadget comes with a USB port for you to charge it....so its chargeable....you don't have to buy a battery.. Easy and user-friendly.

Local Product

Some frens said i'm obsessed with imported stuff....hey!! That's not true....i also support local brands okey!! I'm offendedlah...hehehe...

Anyway, this is "LOCALLY" made. Its now on promotion price, RM6.99 at Giant . Normal price is RM9.99 for 500ml ice-cream. The packaging also looks 'marketable' for export kan.

Its a local brand 'Nestle' and they have another 3 or 4 other flavours which i can't remember. But at the moment, this one taste really really good - Vanilla Cashew Delight. You can finish the whole-tub in one go. Go to your nearest hypermarket and purchase one, pasti terangkat!! You can taste its pure chocolate cream and bites of cashew nut plus its smooth & creamy ice-cream. Its not 'overly' sweet like certain 'imported' ice-cream, so this is good!!

It can be eaten straight from the tub. I think this is one of Nestle's best product which is worth buying. Treat yourself now!

Shuhaida Seafood Restaurant

Last nite...i'm too tired to cook dinner....walhal bukan buat apa pun....hehehe. Bee suggested this restaurant cos its new and a 'facebook' fren of him recommended tis place.

The got bright red concept. Waiter is attentive. They've got an indoor seating which is air-condition and outdoor seating which has fans....but last nite i juz feel like sitting outside cos last nite was nice & windy. Once you take ur seat, they will serve u a small plate of welcome 'muruku'. In their menus, there're got lotsa dishes for 'Chinese' style cooking.

You can never miss this restaurant cos its a corner shop and got big red sign of its name. Its just around the Gia*t Shah Alam area.

Bee ordered 'mihun tomyam' and i told him to tryout its 'tomyam pok-tek', a clear tomyam soup (RM7.00). The ingredient was sorait but we both agreed that its too sourish. Maybe next time we should stick to the normal red tomyam. I had 'mihun ladna' (RM7.00) and its tasty. The sea-coconut juice drink is only RM3.80 and chinese tea is RM1.00.

I think they specialises in 'makanan berhidang' eg. fish (steam, fried, 'masak 3 rasa', etc), prawns (fried, steam, sambal, etc). Since we're trying to eat rice less, one day we must try their specialities and bring our parents or frens.
